Victorian Tile Restoration in Edinburgh | Floor Repair & Cleaning

This Victorian tile restoration project was carried out in a traditional property in the Morningside area of Edinburgh. The original geometric tiled floor had accumulated ingrained dirt and residue, while a number of tiles had become cracked or damaged through historic movement and impact.

Our work involved the specialist cleaning, repair and restoration of the original Victorian tiled floor. Particular care was taken when cleaning the decorative encaustic tiles in the centre of the floor, retaining the character and natural patina of the historic tiles.

Cracked and damaged geometric tiles were carefully removed where necessary and replaced with closely matched tiles selected from our stock of original and reclaimed Victorian tiles. The replacement tiles were carefully fitted into the existing geometric pattern to retain as much original material as possible.

Areas of missing and failed grout were repaired and colour matched to complement the existing floor. Once the cleaning and repairs were complete, an appropriate protective finish was applied, improving the colour and clarity of the geometric design while retaining the age and character of the original Victorian tiled floor.
