Working from our Edinburgh base, we undertook the sympathetic repair and replacement of damaged Victorian tiles using conservation-led techniques developed through many years of caring for Scotland’s historic buildings.

Rather than introducing modern alternatives, we carefully sourced and commissioned matching Victorian geometric tiles to replicate the original size, colour, texture and finish. This allowed the repaired areas to blend naturally with the surrounding historic floor while preserving the character of the original design.

Wherever possible, original Victorian tiles were retained and only those beyond repair were replaced. This conservation-led approach minimises intervention while maintaining the authenticity and long-term performance of the floor.

Following installation, the replacement tiles were carefully finished and integrated with the existing floor to create a seamless appearance. The completed repair restored both the structural integrity and visual continuity of this beautiful Victorian tiled entrance in Morningside, Edinburgh.
