Victorian Floor Tile Replacement in Glasgow
BLOG
This Victorian tile replacement project in Glasgow involved the careful repair and reinstatement of a damaged historic geometric tile floor. A number of cracked, missing and defective Victorian floor tiles were carefully removed using conservation methods designed to minimise disturbance to the surrounding original floor.
To retain the character of the installation, reclaimed Victorian tiles were sourced wherever possible. Where suitable originals could not be obtained, carefully selected modern replicas were used to match the size, colour and pattern of the existing floor. Each replacement tile was individually fitted and adjusted to achieve a sympathetic repair that blended naturally with the surrounding historic fabric.
Once the replacement work was complete, the repaired areas were colour matched and finished to integrate with the original Victorian tile scheme. The result is a durable, visually cohesive floor that preserves the appearance and character of the original installation while extending its serviceable life.
At Victorian Tile Repair, we specialise in the conservation, repair and replacement of Victorian floor tiles throughout Glasgow, Edinburgh and across Scotland. We also provide Victorian tile cleaning, Victorian floor restoration and the installation of new Victorian-style tiled floors, using a combination of original reclaimed materials and carefully matched replicas where appropriate.
The photographs below show the Victorian floor before replacement work began and after the damaged tiles had been carefully matched and reinstated using traditional conservation techniques.
