Sealants and finishes to Victorian floors and mosaic surfaces
Once Victorian Tile Restoration have cleaned an architectural tile or mosaic floor we often apply a finish application to its surface leaving it protected, refreshed and rejuvenated accentuating the natural colours of the tiles and tesserae.
Often tiles have previously been sealed with acrylic, solvent based varnish or synthetic topical sealants and this can cause a lot of damage.
While being cheap and easy to apply they degrade and cause efflorescence by trapping moisture potentially causing floors to become loose and lose integrity. Our surface sealant applications are highly specialized in that they are microporous, allowing the water vapour to pass through.
Victorian Tile Restoration’s surface applications soak into the tiles’ porous structure and don’t create a surface barrier.
This means that there is nothing to wear off the surface or yellow and darken with age.
Our application chemically bonds with the historic tiles pore structure on a molecular level creating a very long lasting and stable application.
Alongside our tried and tested specialised finishes we are happy to offer traditional applications such as wax and linseed oil finishes, dependent upon the historical, listed or scheduled context.
